Black high-heeled shoes...

It all started with a pair of black high heeled shoes...

After a fascinating day of sailing through the chambers of the Panama Canal on Celebrity Infinity, we were ushered to the Rendezvous Lounge for the nightly Captain's Party. It is usually held in the 180 degree windowed Celebrity Lounge but due to a few delays, there were many people still using the top lounge as their vantage point.

Barry and I found a cozy little table for two and ordered our cocktails. We were talking about the usual... Hurricane Harvey, future travel plans and dinner. In walked a couple, the wife was elegant in her white blouse and black belt. She carried herself with such grace that she really stood out. My first inclination was to start up a conversation... but they seemed so enamored of each other, I didn't want to interrupt. So, Barry and I continued with our small talk.

A couple minutes later, I hear, "Love the shoes". I was a little caught off guard but this quick comment has blossomed into an amazing friendship! We talked, laughed, and discovered this amazing couple is living the life Barry and I are planning after he retires... a life of nonstop travel. Tom and Jessica have been on the "road" since October 31, 2011. They use cruise ships as transportation, visit amazing areas and settle in for months at a time. We were mesmerized by their experiences and helpful hints. In fact, Tom and Jess have a blog with over a million followers (worldwidewaftage.com).

Hearing of their daily postings, I was inspired to do what I've been planning (but never following through) to do for the past eight years. Since marrying Barry, I have posted folders of photos on Facebook and many on Instagram. However, I wanted a more thorough documentation. Three months ago, we were hit by Hurricane Harvey. Our home was flooded with five feet of water and all of the contents ruined. It was at that point, I realized that Harvey took our personal belongings but he can't take my digital photos and memories. Tom and Jess made me realize there is no time like the present to start my travel blog. It will be named after my Instagram account... duelingtimezones.com as we seem to pop around from time zone to time zone. Through this blog, I will retrace our steps from the past eight years, while documenting current travel. We are practicing for retirement and hope to one day be as free as our inspiration... Tom and Jess...
