Jet lag is for amateurs...

Bora Bora: Part 2

Bora Bora: Part 2

Who wouldn’t want to be out in these turquoise waters??? All along the shoreline, I saw boats of all sizes lifted up on racks. It must be easy to lower the boat into the water because I saw a very young boy, preparing to go out by himself.

Thankfully, we had chosen a very small group tour. This allowed us to stop for photos and to take in the beauty of this treasure. I now see why people rave about this place… it is easy to picture myself on a beach chair, with a cocktail watching the sunset day after day.

Our next stop was kind of interesting. We parked in a private residence… they asked us if we wanted some water. Their house, or rather shack, had the most spectacular view! From one side they saw a commercial harbor and from the other side, they had a clear view of Mt Pahia, the second highest peak on Bora Bora. It is rumored to be quite a challenging hiking spot. I can only imagine the view from up top! My Dad made friends with the driver, who was originally from back East in the US. He has been living on the island for twenty-five years.

Another stop… more beauty. So many people swimming. The waters are not only the bluest of blues, they are warm. It’s hard to tell because the color is the same as the water, but in the middle of the photo is a someone about to take off on a paraglide. This spot had a snack bar, parking and lots of people!

This stop was fun! We visited a family owned pareo business. They did a quick demonstration and then let us create a colorful fabric. They had stencils to add palm trees or other designs to the cloth. What a talented group! Of course, the photo in the middle is one of their creations. After showing us how to color, we were shown all the different ways to wear a pareo. I was chosen to be one of the “models”.

Here we are posing! The material kind of clashed with my Manuhealii dress… after the pose, we went into their small shop and purchased a couple of their pareos to take home!

We arrived at Bloody Mary’s… a fun indoor/outdoor bar. We were more than ready for a cocktail! Even the parking area out front has a view!

Plenty of people gathered around the thatch covered bar indoors… after ordering, we decided to enjoy a little breathing room outdoors! The ground inside and out was sand. They had lots of seating in both areas and a LONG tropical drink list!

Cute port town. The people seemed genuinely happy to have business from the cruise ships. Makes me wonder how they are surviving during the COVID-19 times…

Fruit stands, tee shirts, wood carved items could be found in this small town. We walked from one end to the other after finishing our tour. My husband was in search of new shorts but the only clothing store was closed. It started to rain and I had one umbrella that I shared with my mom… hubby found a box to create a makeshift umbrella. Time to head back to happy hour!

With the activities complete for the day and most of the guests back on board, we enjoyed a peaceful few moments by the pier. Our ship waited for us to return… tomorrow, sea day heading toward New Zealand. Can’t wait!
