Concert in Houston!
After checking loads, we found the route with our best chance of making it in time for the show connected in Denver. About forty-five minutes into the flight, the person next to me fell asleep... and within no time, his head was on my shoulder. Glad to be of service...
The first leg was on time, second leg... delayed! The gate agent updates changed constantly. It went back and forth between a serious delay and maybe they could find a reserve pilot. As it turned out, we landed on time, but had to sit and wait for a gate for 30 minutes making us late for the start of the show. We walked in to “Black Water”. They sound as good as they did in the seventies!
Such a thrill to see Patrick Simmons after all these years. He's still amazing!
The band, from Northern California, has been together for decades. Patrick Simmons is Guitar/Vocals, Tom Johnston also Guitar/Vocals, John McFee Guitar/Pedal Steel/Dobro/Fiddle/Vocals, Bill Payne on Keyboards, Marc Russo on Saxophone, Ed Toth Drums and John Cowan Bass/Vocals
After a fifteen minute intermission, Chicago came out. Celebrating 50 years of performing, the brass section rocked! The audience at Cynthia Woods Pavilion in The Woodlands, Texas were on their feet dancing!
Jeff Coffey took over as lead singer for the band. He has a great voice and seemed to be a good fit. It has to be tough to step in with a band who has played for decades.
James Pankow, one of the founding members of Chicago had just recently been honored with Hall of Fame. Well deserved!
Ray Hermann, a newer band member, plays woodwinds for the band.
A few times during the show, the brass section just jammed!
Lee Loughnane not only plays the trumpet, he is one of the songwriters. The show was like one giant sing-a-long! I can't remember what I ate for dinner yesterday, but the words to the songs came back easily.
Founding members Robert Lamm, Lee Loughnane, James Pankow and Walt Parazaider have been on a fifty year journey with the band Chicago. They seem to enjoy performing after all these years!
