Voyager: First and Second of Six Sea Days!

First view of the day… a tanker. Certainly, this will be the last sign of life we will experience for the next several days. Usually, when we do Transatlantic or Transpacific, we buddy up with another ship to cross. So far, I haven’t seen another vessel anywhere near us. We must be traveling solo!

Not a fan of the duck phenomenon, it is extremely popular with a large number of cruisers. In the months leading up to departure, guests post photos of the ducks they have purchased and plan to pack. The idea is to hide them all over the ship. For some reason, people get excited when they find one… it is the finder’s choice to keep the duck or hide it in a new location. During my “first view”, I noticed this duck had been tossed onto our balcony. Ugh… Probably our neighbors tossed it around the privacy wall. Now, I have to decide what to do with it!

Following a fun day in Nassau, we sailed all night and we are working our way across the Atlantic! The next land we will see is Ponta Delgada, a small island in the Azores. It’s a cute port to visit… we have been there many times as the crossings usually stop at this island or Funchal, Madeira. On June 2nd cruise, our stop will be at Funchal. It’s nice to have a variety!

Cinco de Mayo, as all special occasions/holidays, are celebrated fully on cruise ships. This was no different… Noon was the starting time for festivities. This colorfully dressed group of parade participants headed toward the Royal Promenade to catch up with the “train”.. Consisting of several decorated train cars, the people and cars would make their way through the 5th floor. Too crowded for me, I headed to a less crowded area…

While everyone gathered between the buffet and the parade, we headed to the pool. Hardly anyone was out there, despite the perfect weather. With my book in hand, it was nice to lay out on the lounges with no one on either side. Once I was sure the trough had cleared out, Corey and I headed upstairs.

So nice to see a focus on safety, the trough area has hand washing stations lining both sides of the entrance. Of course, the energetic employee still has to remind people to “Washy Washy”. The best part… the water is warm! I could stand there for hours haha

Another sea day… another game day! We have played so many rounds of Five Crowns and game after game of Rumikub and Mexican Train. We have each had bad streaks of luck… but it’s fun. Our biggest challenge is to find a table big enough to play. Often times, a single person, takes up a table for four (or table for games) to read a book. There are so many areas without big tables that it seems slightly rude. But… oh well!

Back in our cabin to get ready for the night out, we found a new towel animal. My favorite! The penguin… Hopefully, our cabin steward next May will make one of these when we visit port stops to see the live penguins at Cape Horn! This was just a little reminder of upcoming adventures!

My little space… where I sleep, read and drink my coffee. Still recovering from all the double shifts, I’ve taken quite a few naps. Another factor is that we have had to move time an hour forward twice already. We will be doing that four more times. It’s so much more fun crossing in the other direction because we gain an hour six times!

Slightly dark photos because of the lighting in the room… the Royal Promenade was turned into a Cinco de Mayo party. The Mexican flag was paraded around the room. Lots of dancing to Latin music. It was quite festive!

Mr Wilson creates different drinks each day to see if I like them. For tonight, he called it “Porn Star”. Because of the vodka martini part with champagne added, Corey decided to call it a Mimosa Martini.

By the end of the evening, we found ourselves upstairs in the nightclub. It was a silent disco. This is one of the more popular events. Lots of singing and dancing going on… Until tomorrow…
