Summer Days: Tahoe

Summer Days: Tahoe

This Covid summer is a bit odd… though I am not locked down like many, things are different. I am fortunate to get out at least once a day to this meadow to run my dogs. Throughout the summer, a variety of flowers have bloomed. Just thought I’d share the beauty!

This area is a giant watershed… flowers bloom, wildlife tucked away. There’s a creek running down the middle that my dogs can’t seem to stay out of!

One morning the field is covered in bright yellow flowers and the next white… and the next purple. You never know what you’ll find. It is an amazing reprieve from spending 16 hours a day (two jobs) in the casino environment!

The Tahoe area is full of flowers. Different types bloom each year depending on how heavy the winter was. We’ve gone hiking in the mountains and seen fields of wildflowers. Some years, during droughts, the shoreline is filled with Lupine. Quite a sight to see. I’ll post a photo of one at the end, if I can find it (we haven’t had a drought in a few years).

A purple day! Actually… this was today. I noticed the start of purple flowers popping up. The dogs ran through the meadow… through the tall grass, flowers and pine trees. I took photos. We rarely see any sign of human life while out in the meadow, despite it being in a relatively populated location.

The other day I was leading the dogs back to the car and noticed this splash of color! It was on the edge of the path we take. In a summer of purple, white and yellow… It was rather exciting to see ORANGE!

BONUS: We’ve had a summer of wildlife. At night I hear the yelps of a coyote outside our window (makes the dogs go crazy). On my ride home from work, I’ve seen bears in the road, and of course in the dumpster! We have beautiful birds soaring through the skies. Deer, squirrel and other fun varmints!

Tomorrow I’ll catch up on past travels… just thought I’d toss this in there to get me back on track!
