While out to lunch, we heard residents talk of “the storm” coming… no one seemed particularly alarmed. It was just part of normal conversation. Not until later that evening did we realize the “storm” was a Category 1 Hurricane named Hannah! The wind started blowing, the rain POURED and the power went out for many hours for over 30,000 houses. We seem to be hurricane magnets!

The day after we “survived” Hurricane Hannah, we went out exploring. We only had a few days in the country so there was no time to waste! This is the Adare Trinitarian Abbey. It was founded sometime before 1272. Now it is a Roman Catholic Church… absolutely stunning… Notice the red door?

The thatched roof is commonly seen in Adare, Ireland. This charming village had such a variety of styles… homes like this standing next to a centuries old rock buildings… next to colorful buildings… next to plain-ish homes with bright doors. Wow!

On an otherwise dreary day post Hurricane… these flowers brightened our spirits! We found patches of colorful flowers outside restaurants and shops. My favorite, though… beautiful wisteria climbing up the rock walls of a historical building! I may or may not have taken 50 photos of this flowered building… oops!

This trip, we did not venture into The Manor because time was limited. We already have plans to enjoy a tasting dinner there upon our return in June. Seeing guests greeted by gentlemen in top hats is rather intriguing!

What a stunning medieval work of architecture! Situated on the bank of the River Maigue, this amazing piece of history is documented to have been founded in 1315. I would have loved to view the inside… next time!

While out for our walk, we noticed the remains of an old castle… such beauty! I’d kind of like this “fixer upper”! Known as Desmond Castle Ruins, this will be another item for our ‘to do” list. There are guided tours through the grounds. Apparently, this structure has quite a history! Can’t wait…

Until tomorrow…
