Voyager: Day Two at Sea

Voyager: Day Two at Sea

My day began after a good sleep… lost an hour, so I woke up a bit late. Grabbing a Bailey’s and Cappuccino to get me going, I headed up to the Viking Crown lounge. With a bird’s eye view of the ship and ocean, it is the perfect place (with strong internet) to complete my daily post. It was quiet at this point. People visit the buffet, hang out by the pool and take advantage of the merchandise sales. For me, it is a game to study the daily schedule and go opposite of the flow.

Once my post was completed, Corey joined me for some games. My drink of the day was the Pain Killer and Corey just told the bartender to “surprise him… with something that included gin”. Oh and he didn’t want any club soda. All of the gin drinks on the menu included club soda. He ended up getting something similar to a margarita but made with gin. He liked it… We started with a couple games of Five Crowns and moved on to Rumikub. It was a fun and relaxing afternoon…

Then things changed… we left home on a nice weather day. It had been two days of thunder storms but boarding day was nice. Unfortunately, it appears that after we left, a significant amount of rain fell. Added to what already accumulated on the previous days and what was expected in the coming days, flooding will be an issue. Our house is located right where it says “Kings Point” on this map. We are on a point that sticks out into Lake Houston. Lake Conroe, which took us out in Hurricane Harvey, had more rain that we had and it is reported to be at a dangerous level. They are releasing water to alleviate flooding in Conroe but it runs down the San Jacinto River and into Lake Houston. From what I’m ready, Conroe releases 130,000 cubic feet per second and the Lake Houston spillway releases 10,000 cubic feet per second. So… 13 times more water is pouring into Lake Houston than is spilling out. There in lies the problem… not much I can do from here… Jeremy spent the day prepping. I feel bad for him because he went through Harvey. It is quite traumatizing!

Thinking of flooding took the wind out of my sails… so we headed back to the cabin for a bit. I needed to regroup mentally… a little balcony time would do me good! Just our luck… our cabin steward had already made up our room and left us a little towel bear. Bringing a little lift to my mood, I spent a bit of time reading my book… doing research… and talking with Jeremy to determine what needed to be done on the homefront.

Shortly after returning to the cabin, there was a knock at the door. My Diamond Plus amenity was being delivered. It consisted of several pieces of fresh fruit. Forgetting to take a photo, it looks a little sparse but it was actually quite nice. After tipping the delivery guy, we went back to our reading. There was another knock at the door… he must have liked his tip because he returned with a delicious plate of chocolates. The items I couldn’t eat, Corey gladly ate. The chocolate covered strawberries were SO sweet!!!

We had a couple mixups… first, I purchased a dinner package which had to be used on the first or second night. I selected Chops Grille for night two and could only be seated at 8:30. After looking at my “Daily Calendar”, it only showed that I had an 8:30 reservation but not which location. So, just to confirm, I went to the restaurant. He informed me I did not have a reservation, that was just part of the booking process but he would accommodate us. We walked away thinking we had a couple of hours… we had not noticed the time change wasn’t on our phone, only on the “ship time” page. So actually, we only had about 25 minutes. We decided on a quick visit to the casino and back for dinner.. It was formal night so most people were dressed up.

Dinner was unbelievable! Corey had the rib eye, I had the lamb. Both cooked to perfection. For an appetizer, I had pork belly and Corey had a soup… I’d tell you what kind but he wouldn’t tell me. We enjoyed our Emmolo with dinner! For dessert, I got a flourless chocolate cake and Corey had a regular creamy chocolate cake. Both were amazing. We left with full bellies…

Not a fan of attention… Corey took it like a champ as the crew and guest sang “Happy Birthday”.

We ended the evening with a show. Rarely do I watch the shows but this was totally worth it! This was a late night show with Graig Murphy. A comedian from Boston, he was allowed to be funny… it was announced before the show that if you are easily offended, this is not the show for you. It was hilarious! After worrying about flooding all day, it felt good to laugh. Hopefully, we can catch his show one more time before he leaves the ship in Nassau. Well… it’s been a long day… time for a little reading and sleep! Until tomorrow…
