Anniversary on Kauai

Anniversary on Kauai

Our day began with a little Bailey’s and Coffee… then a trip to explore Poipu in search of a Christmas ornament. My “travel tree” needs a Kauai ornament. First stop… Spouting Horn. In the past, there have been the best shops full of local artistry. It was fun finding treasures at reasonable prices. My hope was that the perfect ornament would be waiting… well, to our surprise, the area had completely changed. No longer a long “L” shaped line of booths, now it was almost a warehouse feel… a locked warehouse. Nothing was open. Only two things remained the same… the chickens runnnig wild… and…

… the Spouting Horn. After realizing we would not be shopping, we headed toward the shore. Unfortunately, chain linked fences have surrounded the area. Tourists filled the area to take pictures, so we had to wait our turn. Luckily, the waves cooperated and we got a few good blow hole events!

Moving onto the next location, we decided to check out the Botanical Gardens. As hoped, on the grounds was a gift shop. It was full of all kinds of special items. The only ornaments simply said “Hawaii” and I wanted specifically, “Kauai” so I didn’t buy it. However, I did find a nice coaster to add to my collection! Walking back to the car, we found a couple of interesting plants. The one on the left was quite colorful. On the right… a cactus type plant with razor sharp teeth along the edges. Caroline touched the plant in the wrong place and got stickers.

Looks like this guy lost his tail at one point in his life. The end is a different color than the rest of the body.

Just above the spot where our car was parked… a very full and white flowery tree stood proudly! Everything flourishes on Kauai and especially at this well manicured garden.

For our anniversary lunch, we visited this brew pub. Kauai Island Brewing Company started in Port Allen and this is their new second location.

Located on the main street of Koloa in a small shopping center, the brewery wasn’t the only new business. It’s a fun center to hang out. As for this brewery… we enjoyed cocktails and lunch with Jeremy and Ezra to celebrate 14 years! My lunch was excellent! Very fresh ahi filled my poke bowl. The sauce was delicious!

Overall, our day was quite mellow. Family filled, food and fun. We played games well into the night. There’s always laughter and teasing when we play… Looking back at our anniversaries, we’ve had a variety of experiences. One year, I followed hubby around on this trip. We had lunch in Salt Lake City airport. Another year was celebrated in Dominican Republic. There’s been Cabo San Lucas, Orlando… sailing on cruise ships to far off lands. As a couple, we made it our priority to make each year special. We got a late start on our second time around… so we must make the best of it!
