Hanalei Bay...

Such a glorious day for the beach! Leaving the south shore, we passed through the tree tunnel. We had to laugh at a great memory… years ago (many), Noelle signed up to do the first leg of a run for Jesus. It started at Koloa ballpark and would end at a Hawaiian church in Kapaa. Jeremy was home from college visiting… well, as luck would have it, Noelle woke up with a fever, aches and pains. She convinced her brother to run the one leg up the tree tunnel. To make a long story short, there were several missing runners and the second church needed help with filling in gaps. Jeremy ended up running pretty near most of the run with a few small breaks. I figured he would not be able to walk the next day… but he was fine! Both teams were so appreciative. They asked if he was a runner… he said, “Nope… I play volleyball and only move in a very short space. No running involved”. Oh… and I forgot to mention, he ran with a raised torch the whole way!

This area around the tree tunnel, is one of my favorites! There are hiking trails on the hills across this valley are. They have beautiful coastline views. Green, green, green!

On our way to Hanalei, we made a slight detour… It’s been awhile since we visited Kilauea Lighthouse. Actually, my only visits have been on school field trips! Not thinking, we did not arrange ahead of time. The tickets were all sold out for the day. The closest we could get was the fenced view spot. And now for the surprise guest…

Auntie! Daily posts on Duelingtimezones.com are not really meant to be a legitimate blog…it is a way for me to secure photos so they are never lost again, as happened in Hurricane Harvey. Of course, I realize a couple of friends and family members peek in from time to time to see what we are up to. Well, Auntie is one of them. Turns out, she had planned a Kauai vacation with a couple of friends that overlapped with our trip. So we got a call… found out Auntie had been on island for a couple of days. Though she was staying on the other side of the island from us, we fetched her up on our way to Hanalei! What a great surprise!

Driving into the Hanalei Beach Park lot, we noticed this sign… this one could not be ignored. I have to wonder how many people visit and aren’t quite sure what “perpendicular” means. Haha! In the sign category, this one goes down as one of my favorites!

Slightly cloudy, we waited a little bit to put up our shade. We noticed two other groups with very similar tents. Much more stable looking that ours was at Salt Pond, I’m guessing the calmer day made it more manageable. We watched surfers, surf lessons and Ezra with his first boogie boarding experience! He LOVeS the water!

Heading back to the water, I grabbed this little one and snapped a selfie. Thankfully, he was happy to oblige. Two seconds after this photo, he was back in the waves…

Lots of activity on the beach…

… and a little restful reading on the beach…

Growing up, my kids (and I) have so many memories of jumping off this pier. Considering it was on the North Shore and we lived on the South Shore, we spent quite a bit of time at Hanalei. This was pretty much our “staycation” spot.

Fun day at the beach, comes to an end… While driving home, I learned that my watch could take photos. So this is me practicing clicking the button on my watch. It will take some practice.
