Family Time on Kauai!

Family Time on Kauai!

When I say I work for wine and vacations… it’s no joke! With my 12 bottle suitcase packed, it was time to go! We brought bottles of Caymus, Shafer, Emmolo, Belle Glos and Pride Vineyards.

The view from my window seat got me a little emotional… having not been back since Covid, a lifetime of memories flooded my brain. Memories of my kids being small, slippahs, shorts… car full of sand… racing from one sporting event to the next… golf… ohana…

My oldest son arranged for our transportation. With so many family members, we decided on a large vehicle! Using Turo, we got a great deal for our entire visit. Clean and convenient! Our Sequioa fit a good portion of the family, all the luggage and the supplies we picked up in town before heading to the condos.

Our desire was to be down toward the beach on the drier side of the island. Parrish Collection in Poipu was perfect! We got three condos next to each other… with balconies overlooking the ocean. The condos have two large en-suite bedrooms, a nice sized living room, fully equipped kitchen and a spacious balcony!

After emptying out the car and getting settled in our condos, we decided to take the short walk down to the beach. The grounds of the condo complex are stunning… beautiful flowers, well manicured and very colorful. Not pictured but nice to mention, there are tennis courts on property, as well as, a nice picnic area with bar-b-ques and benches.

Walking through the sand, climbing the rocks… it warmed my heart to watch the Father/Son time. Feeling like he was on top of the world, my little one spread his arms wide open to the sky!

Sitting on my beach towel, I sensed something behind me. When I turned around… I found my better half! He decided to join us for a little beachy sunset! We had a little time before dusk so we sat and smelled the sea air, listened to the breeze through the palms… chickens squawking… kids laughing…

Clowning on the beach was fun… as always, I started snapping photos. Way too many to post, we started a shared album so throughout the week, we will all post our pics. My youngest (L) isn’t a fan of being photographed so I have to be quick. However, as you can easily tell, my Grandson (R) isn’t shy near a camera! Such a goofy kid… so full of energy! This will be a fun-filled family time :-)

Several turtles rested on the shore. These Green Sea Turtles eat marine algae and sea grass. Poipu Beach attracts tourists and locals who want to check out the giant turtles. It’s a double treat… a perfect sunset and the wild life. As the sun sets, they crawl up the sand to sleep for the night. Usually someone volunteers to stand guard and protect them. They are federally protected…

Slowly, the sun lowered more. My son sat on the rocks watching my grandson (who met a friend). Enjoying the water… laughing with new friends… As the sun set, the colors became more vibrant. The air was warm, water was also warm…

What a gift for our first night… our first sunset… clouds were perfectly placed. As the sun lowered toward the horizon, the gold became more vibrant! Thanks for the first night show, Kauai!

After we saw the last ray of light go beneath the horizon, we headed back to our condos. First, our little one would experience a right of passage… showering off after leaving the ocean water. It’s sometimes difficult because you’re already chilly getting out of the water but having to rinse under a cold shower is a bit of a shock to the system!

Utilizing the kitchen, we had a great dinner… talking and laughing… enjoying great tastes! Then out to the balcony for more talk story time. It’s so rare for me to get all three kids together. On these special occasions… the circuit is complete. Life is good!

This pretty much says it all. A long day of flying, grocery shopping, unpacking, getting settled… hugs, laughter and beach time… leaves the little one (and all of us) collapsing with exhaustion. He hung in there for quite a bit but ultimately, sleep won over. The eyes were too heavy to stay open, the arm fell in complete relaxation! Night night… until tomorrow…
