Jet lag is for amateurs...

Cozumel

Cozumel

Much appreciation was shown to our Veteran’s during this cruise. While waiting for my morning coffee, I looked behind me and noticed a beautiful cake was being set up. A formal ceremony with “Pledge of Allegiance” and several patriotic songs honoring our country and those who served to protect. It was lovely.

Sitting on the balcony, I see Jewel of the Seas. Three booked cruises on this Radiance class ship were canceled during Covid. The one that hurt the most? A 16-day trip from Dubai to Rome. It was going to be a girls trip. Then a birthday cruise was canceled, as was one other. Once I left the ship, walking down the pier, I had to stop for the obligatory selfie with my ship. Adventure of the Seas is an Oasis class…. not my favorite, only because most of the public venues are interior. On Radiance class, the bars, lounges and restaurants all have ocean views.

Our friends were more motivated than we… they got up and visited a beach resort. Our morning was spent enjoying Bailey’s and coffee, a little balcony time and a leisurely taxi ride into town. By the time we arrived, Jeff and Erica were just pulling up at the No Name Sports Bar. We popped in for a cocktail before heading out to explore.

A little touristy, cheesy photo with Senor Frog! We didn’t go in… not that must of a tourist but had to take the picture! Hot and muggy, it was a good choice to walk on the shady side of the street! Lots of excursion booths and souvenir shops… oh and pharmacies every few feet!

What caught my eye… the swing bar seats. Located right across the street from the water, Chili Tequila Bar and Restaurant ended up our choice for lunch. Prior to meeting up with our friends, we ventured past this place. One of the workers had a colorful Houston Astros baseball cap. With my black on black Astros cap on my head, the guy nodded and said, “I like your hat”… thinking he was acknowledging the Astros, I told him I liked his hat too and laughed. He said, “No… I REALLY like yours.” He proceeded to tell me he had never seen the black on black. In appreciation for my selection of caps, he offered us a shot of tequila. Because we were in a bit of a hurry, we told him we would return with friends.

Considering we left in a snowstorm… this amazing weather is just what the doctor ordered! In our sidewalk cafe, across from the water.. the baseball hat guy was surprised we actually returned. He immediately started pouring us shots! Coffee flavored, peanut butter and basic silver tequila. My favorite had to be the peanut butter… very creamy and dangerous!

After finishing our tacos and tequila, out came the fun stuff. Bandito weaponry filled with tequila! We posed, laughed and in the end… we didn’t buy the fancy stuff. But we did buy three bottles of flavored tequila to pack in the suitcase. Fun lunch!

Pouring rain for the sail away party, this beautiful weather gives us another opportunity to wave to neighboring ships. Looking forward to the poolside music and dancing. Most people still out in port, we might get lucky and see “a runner”!

Another night in the Diamond Lounge… we’ve enjoyed getting to know Ivan. Our bartender comes from the resort town of Goa. This area has been on my bucket list. I will make it there one day! Ivan shared stories of his family, life on the ships and past contracts. He provided excellent service… after the first night, he had our cocktails prepared when we walked up for happy hour.

My favorite cruise ship game show is “Love and Marriage”. We got front row seats for this episode! With the wives in a sound proof area, the husbands answered questions the way they figured their wives would respond. Once the questions were completed, the Cruise Director noticed one of the wives had left her phone. The husband said he knew the code to get in… so the CD took advantage of the opportunity. She took a selfie with the audience in the background. There we are waving at the camera! This ran on the stateroom televisions for days…

Spending some of our evenings at Schooner Bar and others at Dog and Duck Pub… we very much enjoyed meeting new people. Five days is not quite long enough but it was a good start for my friends to get a taste. They already want to book another!

Look who I ran into… they guys who always dress… “famously”. They never missed a chance to dress fancy, fancy. Good natured guys, they were happy to oblige a photo with me.

The final day comes to an end… alpenglow on the horizon. It’s sad to think it’s over but we are thankful to know cruising is back open for us! We have a list to book when we get home. Rain… pouring rain… expected for disembarkation. This should be fun!
