Evening in Paris...

Evening in Paris...

We met our Airbnb host on the street outside the courtyard. When the big wooden arched door was opened, we saw the windows of our second story flat. First thing that struck me... the small, economical vehicles parked in the parking area. Though I can't imagine driving in the heart of Paris, what great cars! We then headed inside to see the cozy and efficient flat we would call home for four days. It had everything we needed. So convenient to all the sights, yet quiet for a good night sleep!

Just a block away from our flat, the Institut du France stood proud! From the outside, the most notable aspect is the dome. It is in this part of the building where special ceremonies are held. It is an important part of the world of French Academia,

Leaving our flat, we walked a block toward the Seine River. Crossing the bridge toward the Louvre, we decided it was time to grab a bite to eat. We wandered just on the other side of the Louvre and walked into a sidewalk cafe. I was telling Jeremy how my friend wanted me to join her in Paris since she has never been... and she works for a Hyatt. I knew there was one near by but had no idea where it was...

We both had a good feeling about this sidewalk cafe. Luckily we went in on a gut feeling rather than looking at reviews for our first meal. The reviews are quite mixed, so we probably would have looked at other places. However, luckily we went on our instinct as we thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic meal! The atmosphere, the wine, the food. It was a perfect Parisian night! Cafe Palais Royal provided great service. We had a cozy table and started with a Bordeaux and escargot. The sauce on the snails was delicious! I loved my entree... this Long Shank Osso Buco melted in my mouth!

After dinner, we went to take a quick peek at the pyramid. Tomorrow would be our first official tourist day but it wouldn't hurt to just take a look. Wow! It was a powerful moment walking into the Louvre grounds and seeing the pyramid... lit up and perfectly framed by an arch.

On our way back to our flat, we once again passed by the Institut du France. This time, the lighting made this architectural treat all the more impressive! It looked much more regal at night... can't wait until tomorrow!!!
