Lost For A Couple Days...

Lost For A Couple Days...

With every cruise, we try to attend the Chef’s Table. Since being put on my restrictive diet, I always feel like I am missing out. The others seem to have such incredible food and the Chef sort of throws something together for me. Not this time! Wow! She took care in addressing my dietary needs but also pairing well with the wines. It was incredible. When the soup was delivered, I knew a treat was coming! The presentation began with pumpkin seeds in my bowl. The others had a sour cream, stewed tomatoes and something else (not sure). They received a smoked tomato soup… everyone raved! For mine… the most amazing butternut squash soup. Truly thought I’d died and gone to heaven!

This got a little laugh… just after I clicked the photo, Corey grinned. Apparently, he was trying to look serious in the picture and once it was taken, he couldn’t keep a straight face. The guys across the table had a good laugh. They realized that I missed the best photo moment of all.

This Chef’s Table was 100% different than any other I’ve attended. Usually, the evening starts out quiet and after a glass of wine and delicious food, people start really enjoying each other’s company. We began our evening in “R Bar” for an opening cocktail. It was a mojito champagne. The head waiter attempts to group people together to break the ice before dinner. While waiting to be escorted in, we sat with Wade (on the left in the left photo) and Michael (on the left in the right photo). With our names on our spots already, we ended up being seated across from each other. Wade was seated next to Wei… who literally did not stop talking the entire meal. No one could start a conversation because he drew attention to himself at every chance. It was so bad that we kind of started picking on him… I had to “shield” him several times. He was convinced I worked for the CIA… so I told him my name was Cia… One couple, finally couldn’t take it anymore, got up and walked out. But not before saying, “You, sir, have had too much to drink!” The head waiter apologized profusely because he saw what was going on… and apparently, Wei had already been to the Chef’s Table on a previous night. Pictured on the right side of the right photo was Wei’s brother. We never even got his name! He was very mild mannered… and said he just has to let his brother talk because if he says anything, it eggs him on to do more (which I actually can’t imagine). We did end up being friends with Wade and Michael… misery loves company.

Seated next to Corey, was another couple we never got to officially meet… other than funny remarks made between us, we never got to find out anything about them! The gentleman, is who made the comment as he left dinner early. Only one other time in all of our sailings, did a group not meld… somehow, the topic turned to politics. By the end of dinner, half the people walked out. It was crazy!

Such a delicious dessert! By this time, I was absolutely stuffed to the gills! Dark, creamy chocolate is hard to pass up. So… I did my best to finish as much as physically possible.

Back to the cabin, our towel animal was waiting… on this night, the first of three nights of wheezing. Not sure what was causing this, each night got worse. Also, Corey started getting migraines. He’d done pretty well up until that point. By the third night, I was really struggling. My airways were closing up, I was wheezing, a rash developed on my trunk. My head itched like crazy! It got me to wondering if I was actually allergic to Liquid IV… then I realized that I had switched waters. From the regular bottled water given to me by crew members, I was jumping into the Evian. It always tastes thick to me… not like refreshing water. I’m not a fan of hydrating so this makes it more difficult. When I couldn’t sleep, I started researching water allergies. It turns out there is a lawsuit against Evian for additives. Took a bit to realize, this was another Lupus trigger. Never got out of bed for an entire day… Corey brought me food to the room. Three quarters of today has been lost but I will continue with Ponta Delgado tomorrow…
