Home Sweet Malaga...

Home Sweet Malaga...

Slowing down in an area busy with foot traffic, let us know we had picked a great location. We simply had to walk down this alleyway and the door to our “home” was on the left. It’s nice to be close to bars, restaurants and shops.

Arriving at the Malaga train station at a decent hour, we decided a quick taxi ride was our best bet. Despite the language barrier, we were able to show him where our accommodations were and he dropped us off right at the entrance to our alleyway, mere feet from the front door. Check-in was a breeze. We had a double locked outside door and an elevator to take us to our fifth floor (actually sixth) flat.

First impression… the view! Just outside the back door was a small deck with a table for six. It overlooked the beautiful town of Malaga. Regally standing before us, was the Inglesia de San Juan Bautista. Stunning by day or night…

Views, views, views… this is why we booked our VRBO flat. Having a bird’s eye view of this magical area was special. The rooftop jacuzzi was an absolute extra bonus! Though the town was bustling, our accommodations were very quiet. Being on the fifth floor may have helped. It took us a good part of the day to heat our jacuzzi but it was thankfully ready for night time enjoyment!

After checking in, we headed to a small restaurant we visited last time we were in Malaga. This was the location my better half discovered he loves paella! Of course, we can’t arrive in this amazing area and not enjoy a bit of Sangria!…

My favorite thing about this restaurant is that you step down into it. This makes our view at the base of the street level. Not only do we get to people watch the passersby, but we had an amazing view of the cathedral! This is the perfect spot for a lingering meal… and linger we did!

Sharing a salad, which we do often… sipping on sangria… watching tourists and locals walk by our window seat. Such a relaxing meal. This location is one of the rare places that makes a paella without tomatoes! As time goes on, it has become easier to locate gluten and nightshade free foods.

After dinner, we walked through the alley ways of Malaga. There’s something about this area that makes me feel at home. My heritage comes from Spain, but the complete other side… the Basque area. Last time we visited, our host explained that this is a mini-Barcelona. She told us that this is a special area… “it’s the rhythm”. Initially confused, once we began walking around, ducking into restaurants and meeting people, it became obvious what she meant.

After dinner, we got in touch with our roomies to see what they were up to. They wanted to stop by an Irish bar because it was St Paddy’s Day! Part of me wanted to celebrate the Irish fun day because my better half is Irish, but I also hesitiate to jump in to the fray on holidays. I guess it’s the many years working with the public… in a semi “service” industry. A quiet wine bar or a hole in the wall is more my style. With that said, it was perfect weather and very festive. We had a cocktail or two, met a bride to be and eventually wandered through the alleys back to our “home”. Bedtime!
