Prague... Pure Beauty!

Prague... Pure Beauty!

At Detroit airport (DTW) we had to walk from terminal to terminal through the underground tunnel. Music plays, colorful lights changing... seemingly dancing to the music. It makes an ordinary march across the airport, an enjoyable experience.

We flew into Frankfurt and after a short layover, continued on to Prague. After a comfortable Uber drive, we checked into our flat. We stayed on the second floor... I loved the stairs area! We usually took the elevator up and used the stairs to go down... Here's a link to our accommodations:

The flat was cozy and had everything we needed. A decent sized bathroom with a great shower! The kitchen had all the amenities, though we didn't do any cooking at the flat. Our host gave us a bottle of Kava and a couple snacks. Very nice!

Spiral staircase led to a giant loft with a king sized bed. It was a quiet location... hard to believe it was steps from Old Town!

arches.JPG

Walking through the town, we saw a shopping area with these arches. With the fantastic weather we had, we definitely did a LOT of walking!

cobbledstreets.JPG

I love this! The pattern on the sidewalk next to the cobbled streets is something we never see in the United States. So unique!

Right out our door was Old Town Square. An area lined with restaurants and shops... flats on the upper levels. It was sort of a gathering place for locals and tourists alike. We lucked out with the weather... there were many pedestrians because of the mild temperatures.

Sculptures in the center of the square... street musicians, human statues... this was a perfect place to take photos and people watch. Prague has such character...

praguestreets.JPG

Common to many European cities, the buildings were colorful This area, as most of Prague, had cobbled streets. What an amazing city! One thing we noticed were there were many groups of well dressed people, socializing and laughing... such a happy place!

This building stood out to me! So much character... it was a corner building rather than a typical square building. The color... the design and the intricate details around the windows made this one of my favorite in Prague.

StGilesChurch.JPG

We attempted to visit a beer museum but our timing was off. The tours of the museum have set times and they had ended for the day. Just across the street was St Giles Church. This 17th century church boasts one of the biggest organs. Our timing was perfect as we were able to hear it in action. However, we didn't get to see one of the free concerts advertised. That would be something to do next time!

The arch... the cobbled streets and the shadow of a man made this the perfect subject for a photo.

astronomicalclock.JPG

Mounted on the southern side of the Old Town Hall in Old Town Square, the Astronomical Clock is one of the most visited sights in Prague. Built in 1410, this mechanical clock with an astronomical dial puts on a little show at the top of every hour. In the top portion of the dial, the background represents the earth and sky. The outer ring moves up and down depending on the time of day... like the sun rising and setting. Little windows open and four figures dance... on our first visit, the clock was broken. We shared with one of the shop owners that the clock wasn't working and he was stunned... he said the clock IS Prague. We happened to be back by the clock around midnight and were able to see the clock activity!

We ventured past this little alley way. Intriguged, we walked down the path and found a dead end. There were shops but none of them were open. Around the corner, ivy draped the walls. It added another layer of charm to this beautiful area.
