Jet lag is for amateurs...

Mahogany Bay: Roatan

Mahogany Bay: Roatan

Before getting off of the ship, we enjoyed a little peace and quiet in the comfortable seating outside the Explorers Lounge. With most people ashore, we almost had the ship to ourselves! Blue waters right outside the window… a cappuccino with a little Bailey’s… perfect way to start the day!

Either the port has been completely rebuilt or we visited a new part of the island. Guests can either walk to the beach on a path through the jungle like area or ride on the chairlift. If the beach isn’t your thing, there is lots of shopping in the plaza immediately off the ship. The atmosphere was festive with bars playing loud music, cultural dancing and locals welcoming guests into their shops.

Beautiful foliage greeted us in the plaza area. This burst of color caught my eye! We could have walked through this gate to get to the beach but we chose the overhead chairlift. The irony of leaving snowy Tahoe with buried chairlifts, to ride one in the tropical sunshine.

After years of getting on chairlifts on ice or snow… it was entertaining to see how difficult people found navigating this task. The operators were very good at their job. Painted feet on the ground made it obvious where to stand (or SHOULD have). Counting down… three, two, one… even saying, “sit”. Yet every minute or so, the entire system had to shut down while someone got on or off at the other end. Apparently, it’s more difficult than it seems!

From the air, we saw this little critter… Colorful iguanas could be found along the pathway and tucked away in the trees.

Like a dream come true… the breathtaking view as we dropped down into the beach area. From the chairlift, we could see a variety of watersports. Some visitors were paddleboarding, some were kayaking. We actually saw a stingray float by but I was too slow getting my camera out!

Not able to be in the sun too much, we opted for a strawberry daquiri and nachos. Lively music played VERY loudly between the three bars… Our friends actually walked by as we sat and ate. We chatted a bit and they headed back to the ship. They got off the ship earlier and enjoyed the water. Wish I could have but avoiding a Lupus flare up was important… :-)

Strolling back to the ship, I glanced to my right and noticed the Ruby Princess. Framed by bougainvillea, the ship looked regal. We enjoyed this port stop much more than expected!

My obligatory ship photo… I try to take a selfie in front of the ship’s name.

Pre-dinner fun… we were fortunate to find the best bartender on the ship. Taking pride in her concoctions, each drink is created with care.

Crown Grill was exceptional. Hubby had a Porterhouse steak and mine was Chilean Sea Bass. With a bottle of Caymus, the meal was perfect! Our server was from Serbia… very kind…
