Last Irish Day...

Last Irish Day...

We drove through Limerick… in my humble opinion, it is not as charming as Dublin. To be fair, it was rainy so we didn’t spend as much time exploring as I would have liked. I guess when I think of Ireland I imagine pubs, small town feel. Limerick feels big and slightly industrial to me.

As we traveled down the road… navigating VERY narrow streets from the left side of the road, we stopped for coffee. A quaint shop with delicious cappuccinos and artsy gifts. The best part was the coastline view!

Where the land meets the sea… the countryside and farm land runs all the way down to the water. Lucky lady who owns the coffee shop, she has this view all day long!

Cliffs of Moher!!! Spectacular! Such a powerful coastline. Unfortunately, I am a baby… it was windy (as expected) and cold. I was prepared for a bit of cold but not quite what we got. I would love to return when the lighting is better… sunrise or sunset. The power was out from the Hurricane that passed through so access was limited. Our “next time” list is growing!!!

Funny story… we began our drive back to Dublin. The car we rented had prepaid gasoline and our plan was to return it to the agency on fumes. Well… the best laid plans… we began driving and as I watched the gauge, I realized we would not make it. For some reason, it always seems like the second half of the tank never lasts as long as the first half! So, we began looking for a station. The GPS showed us a Texaco station five kilometers away and appeared to be close to the freeway. Navigating through the roundabout, we headed on a country road in the direction we just were… I was starting to sweat a little because it was a Sunday morning and there was a chance the station would be closed. Well… after five kilometers, we reached a building that was obviously a FORMER Texaco! With the dial on red, we continued on the barren roadway hoping to get as close as possible to a station before running out of gas. Out of the blue, we saw an exit sign for fuel! Yay! We pulled up to the pump and straight ahead we see the sign “Barack Obama Plaza” and soon found we were in Obama Village. Oh… and we literally had fumes left!

We made our flight, picked up our luggage in Houston. Check back tomorrow to discover where we landed next!
