Last Day in Fremantle

Last Day in Fremantle

If only we had walked this route on our first day in port! We could have seen Michael Buble and Queen with Adam Lambert!!! There were tickets available… An entire wall as filled with posters. Pretty surprising to see so many from the American music scene this far from home!

Had I known we would have so much time in Fremantle, I would have researched the statutes. Turns out, this harbor town is FULL of them. We wandered by this one on our walk… a statue of CY O’Connor, an extremely gifted engineer. He was the brain behind Fremantle Harbor. Many thought his idea was crazy because of the proximity to the Swan River. Over 100 years later, the port is still accepting large ocean vessels!

Named the Esplanade Hotel because it borders the Esplanade Park, we almost stayed at this hotel. This seems very nice… luxurious lobby… but I’m more than happy with our choice. The old style building fit well in this charming town.

With the very warm weather, an ice cold beer was calling us… Little Creatures Brewery was located right on the water. It was divided into several areas… a waterfront seating spot, large tasting room, restaurant. With so many options for waterfront dining, we could easily stay a week here!

Continuing with our exploration… we came upon the most amazing shop (for us anyway). This was a very large shop full of maps, charts and travel books. They had historical maps and current maps. One shelf held mapped itineraries for camping or road trips pretty much anywhere in the world. What attracted us to the shop was their collection of old school travel posters. We couldn’t resist! We bought an old United Airlines poster, PSA, Matson and two others. We’ve been waiting a month for them to clear customs! Our tube of posters is currently held hostage in Chicago!

So… as our day was coming to an end, we began to realize we had seen many slippahs in the road and on the sidewalk. When I saw the first one, I didn’t think much of it… but by the fifth, I decided to take a photo. Then another and another. Not sure what this is about but if I didn’t have shoes, I could certainly walk the streets of Fremantle and find a left and a right!
