Getaway: Belize City!
Riding on a ship provided shuttle to the entrance, much time in the heat was spared. Once inside the gates, there are signs pointing every direction. You have to just pick an area and explore. All we wanted to do was splash around in the warm seas for a while. We noticed a sign pointing to a “free” beach. Some areas had limited access because they were sold as part of an excursion.
Peeking through the greenery, we found a little friend… the island has lots of critters. It was fun to catch site of an unexpected animal, mammal, insect. It kept us on our toes!
Making our way to the beach, we dropped our things off on a chair in the shade. Into the water we went. It was the perfect temperature! Honestly, I could float around in this water for hours! We could watch the cruisers zipline from the tower, across the bay. The contraption was a little different from ours in Costa Rica. In this spot, the body is sent off in a lay down position. For a split second, I thought I could do that… but then we laughed knowing there is no way! My fear of heights just wouldn’t allow it. Lounge chairs lined the shore in this public area. The spots with umbrella are free, first come, first served. The shells in the very back are for a fee.
The water could not have been better! Salt water is always healing… just what the doctor ordered. Enjoying the view from our shaded seats, then in and out of the water. Very nice day. While on a family cruise in early October, we visited a cruise ship owned island. It was one of Royal Caribbeans. Their island had a very nice buffet, set up similar to the ship. The food was included in the cruise fare. If you had the drink package, drinks were included. All the snorkeling, etc., was included. Norwegian… any food was extra. We saw a few bars but no cocktail service in the lounge chairs. This was a completely different experience. Another example of the “nickel and dime” thing going on at Norwegian.
Back on the ship, we grabbed drinks… an Aperol Spritz for me. It was time to play games. Finally, I am talking Roxanne into playing games! From country to country, I drag my games with me. One afternoon on the Serenade of the Seas… Chris and Roxanne played but otherwise, nothing. I bring them along for nothing. Well… Corey played with me almost every day. Jeremy and the kids played. Barry will play. So, it’s not a complete waste.
After 40+ years in the casino industry… watching Roxanne deal our game was hilarious! Very methodical. Very nicely laid out. hahahahaha Roxanne caught on to Five Crowns quickly. We played a few more games. She may have been lying, but she said it was fun :-)
