Jet lag is for amateurs...

Seasons in the Sun...

While I slept cozy in my bed, half the family went to Captain Andy’s and half went to the North Shore to see waterfalls! Mr Chuckles watched as the catamaran left Port Allen. Back in the day, the kids and I used to sail on Andy’s boats relatively often. He’s a friend and loved letting this “single mom” on to give her kids a great memory. Decades later, it’s still an exciting event!

Views of the Kalalau Valley and Napali Coast… incredible! Jetting up from the ocean, the green mountains and waterfalls are so impressive. Not easily attainable, it is definitely one of the most beautiful places on earth!

Had I been on this trip with the kids, there would have been gazillions of photos. Feel thankful there are just enough to get a feel for the fun our family members experienced. Headed out to the West Shore of the island… hold so much Kauai beautfy! Sasha and her Aunty’s had a great time!

Certain boat trips will go inside the caves found around this section of coastline. Actually, this is just below the spot where the kids were exploring Waimea Canyon/Kokee. The Catamaran sails right below the Kalalau Valley… Another fun part of these boat tripsis getting to snorkle. Usually, a very “fishy” area is selected. Apparently, dolphins followed the boat but I’ve seen no photographic evidence :-)

Happy faces = fun day on the water! At some point, I will have to figure out a way to get back at sea (other than on a cruise ship). I love being out in that area… but it wouldn’t be the same if it means sitting below deck. Breeze blowing through my hair, salt air… that’s what makes the trip special!

Next on the agenda… a short walk to Kalapaki Joe’s for Happy Hour! It’s Taco Tuesday! Every day, from 3 to 6, the restaurant has a special. We took the route that ran along a path on the outskirts of the tennis courts of Poipu Kai.

Filling two tables with laughter, chicken wings ($.25/each limit 20 per table) and $1 steak street tacos. We were reminded that, when ordering the specials, it is a two drink minimum. Easy peasy! Mai Tai’s for me… mostly beers for the boys.

Sometimes, it’s necessary to click on the photo to open it and see the entire content. These two seem to be cutting off faces unless open.

… boys will be boyz… within a short time, Jeremy ran into an old friend and in the blink of an eye… shots! None for me! That took things up a notch. At least we are a close walk from the condo!

On our way back to the condo… the ocean called out to us. We were drawn to the shoreline to probe the reef. Ezra has a giant crush on his Aunty Caroline, that’s for sure! He sticks to her like glue. Jockey’s into position to make sure he is always sitting or standing next to her. Adorable!

There’s a consequence for asking Jeremy to take a picture using your phone… He kind of looks like the cat who ate the mouse…

Anniversary season continues on… Wexa had a great time checking out sea creatures embedded in the reef. Sunset near the shoreline is so special. Everyone shared what they did during the day. We took more pictures… of course.

Getting in the spirit… Mr Chuckles picked up a plumeria and placed it behind his ear. Kauai is one of his happy places so I’m pretty sure he was enjoying the family time. Due to his sore knees, walking down on the uneven reef was not possible. So basically, the kid’s parents are falling apart haha!

What time is it??? Sunset Selfie Time! There’s a calm about this time of day. As the setting sun falls toward the horizon, I’m always aware of another day ending. It’s a great time to reflect on the events of the day. In this case, my days have been less action packed than the rest because I’m just not feeling up to par. But what better place to be if you’re under the weather. It’s not that I’m sick… just feeling like I’m in a never-ending Lupus flare. Not a bad one… but enough to where my energy is lacking. Oh well… maybe tomorrow!

So many creatures can be found in the reef. When I was teaching, we would take the students to Salt Pond Beach for a reef walk. Each group had a list of sea life often seen in the area. They also got a bucket. We made it a contest to find the most unusual sealife.

One happy Mama getting pictures with the ducklings. It’s so rare… the three of them get together from time to time but they send me annoying pictures that don’t quite have all three together. It will be someone’s head cutoff or blurry or over exposed. They think they are funny. This trip, they’ve take a couple of photos with me!

Joining in the fun… both kids decorated themselves with a plumeria. Each with a beautiful Hawaiian name picked out by the Aunty U’i, this island feels like home to them.

One of the positives of having oddly long arms… we don’t need a selfie stick. We managed to get almost the whole group in the photo.

Such a fun photo… the two kids bonding with their Aunty Caroline. This was the offiial end to the outdoors day but not the day itself. Now it was time to go up for an evening snack.

As the evening went on… we digressed. Ha! Bottles of wine… a delicious charcuterie board (which I found out the next day was actually a new gift from Wexa). We had congratulatory speeches, cheers, rambling… laughing. Basically, we had a whole lot of shennanigans! At one point, I thought I lost one of the tiki torches I brought from Tahoe… but we looked off the lanai and saw it in the bushes below. As Wes prepared to go get it, another one fell through the railings. All in all, it was a great day… family fun is my favorite!
