More Malaga Fun...

Crossing over to the harbor side, we passed by the horse drawn carriages. Lining the streets, this is a fun way to get around town!

Walking down the harbor, we passed small boats, ships and a beautiful water view. It’s easy to lose track of time, and that is just what happened! We meant to visit yesterday when we would have seen Symphony of the Seas, the ship we should have been on. This would have been our first day on land after nine sea days, but instead, we took a quick cruise with a land based vacation. We shifted the reservation to a Canary Islands cruise for Lara’s birthday next year. It will leave out of Southampton. The ship in the photo is the Emerald Princess. It looks huge in this moderate sized port.

This side of the street, the water side, is more parklike. There are gardens and a few restaurants lining the harbor. It’s a nice place to relax, people watch and feel the ocean vibe. Walking down the sidewalk, you can book last minute catamaran or other boat rides, rent bikes or any kind of tour. There’s actually a lot to do in this town, but we were just in relax mode.

Down the colorful and lively alleyway we walked… heading toward a special lunch. After passing by a few times and seeing it full, I found a way to make reservations online. So I booked a lunch meal…

Our starter was interesting. As explained by our waiter, the cheeses were to be eaten in a particular order. Five types beginning at the top (left) of the board and ending with the creamy cheese in the ramekin. The prosciutto was thinly sliced and so fresh. There’s nothing like Spanish jamon!

Of course, in a restaurant that specializes in wines, we had to enjoy a bottle! Our waiter helped select the perfect wine by asking a few questions. Our wine genius picked something he thought we would like and boy, was he right! It was perfect!

Focused on doing his very best, our waiter torched the jamon to make it perfect. I’ve never actually had it that way before but it was so yummy! One of the stores in town had gluten free bread sticks. After this meal, where I had to watch the hubby enjoy bread the Spanish way, I decided carrying my breadsticks is a good idea. Then I will have something to dip…

Most guests enjoyed the outdoor area of the restaurant. We chose to sit indoors because of my need to have limited exposure to the sun. Well, what a good move! The ceiling was impressive! Stained glass which reflected off the windows, created a bright and colorful scene.

As mentioned earlier, this restaurant is known for the wines… Los Patios de Beatas carries six hundred bottles.. Something for everyone. Set up for a wine dinner, this would be an awesome place to meet new people and taste new wines. Hopefully, next visit we can time our stay around one of their dinners.

Finishing my siesta before my hubby, I decided to visit the Cathedral de Malaga on my own. Not as big as some we’ve seen but beautiful just the same! The architecture never ceases to amaze me… knowing it lasts for centuries is most impressive!

One of the things I’ve noticed in the European cathedrals, is the lighting. Chandelier type artistry is quite unique. Some have several lights, all different designs! Also, I am a big fan of the pipe organs. Floor to ceiling pipes with the most beautiful music emanating from them…

Our “regular” pre-dinner fun spot once again. We received a warm welcome from the bartender and he quickly began his espresso martini creation.

Wow! Another phenomenal meal… we got a late night hunger and found a sweet little spot at the end of the alley that had the wine restaurant. Service was excellent. We opted for a few tapas. The first was a delicious goat cheese… with a fig sauce, topped with nuts. The taste combination was unbelievable. They also made me gluten free pot stickers. They were on a raspberry sauce.

On our last night, we attempted to visit a restaurant owned by a friend of mine. It’s kind of an interesting connection… Cathy and I went to school together in California, she currently lives in Greece. Her friends live in Malaga and have a well rated restaurant. Unfortunately, after finding our way there, we discovered that the owners were on vacation. Just gives us something to look forward to checking out on our next visit. We walked back to our side of the town… passing the flower mart on the way. Warm nights and the Spanish flair… can’t wait to return!!!
