tulip.jpg

Just had to stop and snap a photo of this. Spring was in the air and the tulips were blooming. I loved the building in the back. It definitely added to the content of the photo.

artmuseum.jpg

As we walked along the waterfront, we noticed this beautiful building. I have a love of unusual architecture. This city has so many areas of old time construction... brick, stone... so seeing the modern design of the Opera House surprised me. I wish we'd been able to cross the river and visit the inside. The Opera House of Denmark is considered the most modern in the world. At a cost of $500 Million, this building seats between 1490 and 1703 people depending on the size of the orchestra.

green.jpg

Always drawn to peaceful green settings, this one struck me because of the reflection on the water. In the heart of the city, the giant weeping willow offered us a cool place to take a little break.

weather.jpg

In Rotterdam, we were told we caught the best weather. Once again, three days later in Copenhagen, we had everyone telling us that this was the warmest, clearest day of the year so far! How fortunate for us because I'm not a fan of cold... we had a few clouds to shield us from the sun.

cityhall.jpg

Across from Tivoli Gardens is the City Hall. A very large brick building, there was a bustle of activity outside. On one side soccer teams had mini fields set up side by side for a tournament. There were food booths, music stages and kiosks of artists wares. The walk back was amazing with churches, shops and a safe pedestrian walkway.

bikes.JPG

Bike riders fill the roads all throughout the city. New bike paths recently opened with an area for pedestrians. It is an easy place to live without a vehicle. I love the way these bikes were stored in this space saving manner.

crepes.JPG

Even though we knew it would ruin our dinner, we had to stop by for a crepe. I love fresh crepes! After ordering, we sat on a bench in front of St Michael's church. Located in a residential part of town, one street over was a main business thoroughfare.

laundry.JPG

Many folks live on their boats in the canals. It doesn't seem like the boats are used for transportation, for the most part. Loved seeing the laundry blowing in the wind of this "home".

With the sun shining brightly, residents were out in full force. All of the restaurants that lined the canal were full. We saw a party bike... it had a table that seated eight and all the people sitting around the table had to pedal. Just across the canal from our hotel, this was a lively spot late into the night!

burned.jpg

So, we went into Gorm's Restaurant which was right next door to Hotel Bethel. Amazing food! The waitress seated us and went to get the wine we ordered. As Barry was reading the menu, he didn't realize that there was a very short candle on the table as decoration. He definitely noticed when a hole burned through the menu!!! We were SO embarrassed! The waitress was very gracious. She said that happens quite often because the candle blends into the table decor.

dinner.jpg

We started with appetizers... Caprese Salad is a favorite of ours, especially with a nice red wine. The pizza we ordered was outstanding! It will be the first place we visit if/when we visit again!

TrainStation.JPG

ur exploration came to an end and it was time to visit our friends in Stockholm! Checkout was easy and we took a taxi to the train station. We definitely could have walked but we had all of our cruise luggage. Arriving early, we were able to look at the shops and figure out how the system worked. Luckily because it was a little confusing... off to Stockholm we go!!!
