Malaga On My Own

Malaga On My Own

Venturing outside the normal area, I walked past City Hall. It is known as the “mansion in the park”. Next stop, I visited Jardines Musica Vieja. Owned by the city of Malaga, this park has many varieties of plants and flowers. Quite peaceful, I spent a bit of time just enjoying the benches by the fountain. Everything was perfectly manicured.

Located at the base of the Alcazaba added to the beauty of this park. With the Jacaranda trees in full blossom, the brick of the structures above and the thick foliage, this area was extremely picturesque! Honestly, I sat in this area for a very long time. People watching in a spot like this is pretty fun.

In search of a “graffiti wall”, I walked down a tree-lined pathway and then through a tunnel. Such a stark difference in the two walking areas. Graffiti is an art form I love. With grand hopes in mind for some awesome photos, I wasn’t bothered by the distance necessary to reach the location. Down city streets, through neighborhoods, up hills, down hills. It was quite a journey.

Imagine my disappointment when I reached my destination… this was specifically noted on google maps as a “must see”. After visiting the old train tunnels by Donner Lake (Train Tunnels ), this was not expected. The area itself was a bit sketchy! After snapping one photo, I scooted out and back to more familiar surroundings!

Looking for alleyways previously undiscovered, I came upon an area with second-hand stores. It was fun to see the European version of this type of store. Different styles were available. Next time, I’ll bring more Euros to do a little shopping. It would be nice to find outfits not found in the USA.

This set of signs is not at all confusing… ugh. With all alleyways basically leading back to the center of town, it really didn’t matter if you followed the signs. One shows the way to the Picasso museum… if you walked the opposite direction from what the sign is noting, you would still end up at the museum. It’s an interesting little town. Maybe that’s why I love it so much… I can never really get lost!

All roads lead back to Constitution Square. So… here I ended up again. It was time to do some last minute shopping. Ordinarily, I grab an ornament from every location. This trip, I had an epiphany… how about collecting something more useful. Of course, I will still get an ornament, but now I’ve added to my repertoire! As a fan of charcuterie boards, it was time to collect small bowls with the name of the town visited. They will be used for olives, nuts, jams, etc. Malaga was my first purchase for my charcuterie collection!

On my way to an early dinner, I passed by this Picasso chicken. Being the birthplace of Pablo Picasso, artwork can be found in many of the stores. It’s kind of fun to see the simplistic and colorful pieces.

My last Malaga meal was at D’Platos. Having eaten at this restaurant a few times on this trip and in the past, I was anxious to enjoy this amazing dish one more time! The waiter knew me from previous visits and served me a couple of complimentary treats. He was fully aware of my dietary restrictions. This was a gluten free wonton… stuffed with feta cheese and diced walnuts. Sitting in a raspberry sauce made this a taste sensation! Arriving early, before the crowds, I was able to sit for quite some time and enjoy the sights.

Deciding to move closer to the airport, I chose a very reasonably priced hotel with excellent reviews. Hotel Romerito was everything I needed and more! A few negative comments involved the location not being in the heart of town. After checking out a map, I saw that there were restaurants, stores and a park nearby. That was all I needed. Arriving rather early, my room was not quite ready so they pointed me in the direction of the patio. Such a great little spot to sit and relax.

Beautiful tiles decorated the walls of the courtyard. Within moments of arriving, I realized there would be no need to leave the property. While waiting, I had a nice cappuccino and saw that others were enjoying both breakfast and lunch.

All around the courtyard were separate seating areas offering privacy for small groups. Some of the rooms were accessible directly from the patio area. Enjoying the shade and perfect temperatures, it was a nice place to get my plans in order for the next leg of the spring fling!

Not long before I was offered a room. Gathering my luggage, I took the elevator to the second floor. Opening the door, my spacious room awaited! Needing a little nap, the beds looked inviting. The decor was simple but elegant. This was a really good choice. Opening the curtains offered a sliding door to the balcony! Quite large, it looked over the street. What an added plus! After my nap, this was my reading spot for a couple of hours.

Peering out the window by the elevator, I was able to see how cute this little courtyard was. It was an added bonus to be able to stay right on the property and safely enjoy a glass of wine with complimentary olives. Soon my dinner was served… it was delicious! My fish, vegetables and salad were made to perfection. Considering this was my first meal of the day, I was quite hungry. The food was gobbled down in fast order! Now, time to get my luggage in order and prepare for a very early flight to London.
